Bedwetting
Bed wetting is far more common than you’d think and a very real
problem for both kids and their parents alike. Apart from the problem
many parents have unrealistic expectations for their kids to stay dry
at night.
Many families believe giving potty training to their kids at day time
will also help them to stay dry at night. But the fact is that most of
the kids which happen to be potty trained are usually between the ages
of 3 to 4. The research has shown us that 15% of kids wet their
beds at the age of 5, 7-10% at the age of 7 and 3% at the age of 10.
It’s also been shown that about 15% of kids outgrow their
bedwetting habit at the age of 15 every year.
Facts of bedwetting
Although most families like to believe the “fact” that their child is a
deep sleeper and that’s what causes him/her to wet their bed during
sleep, bedwetting has in fact various severely complex, environmental,
behavioral and medical causes.
It has been proven that genetics play a vital role in all of this.
Research shows that the parents of the majority of the kids did in fact
wet their own beds when they were children. So you could say that this
“problem” does indeed get passed on from generation to generation.
Dealing with bedwetting
The most important thing we should keep in mind is that we should never
punish the child for bedwetting because it is simply not his/her fault
for doing so and it’s just a natural phenomenon that the child must
pass at a very early stage of his/her life. Just visit your doctor.
Remember that all
children will most certainly outgrow this problem at the age of 15 if
not earlier.
Younger kids can wear up-pads and pull-ups to stay free. As far as
older kids are concerned they can use waterproof mattress and over
layers.
